What is the Parent-Educator Partnership Program (PEP)?
The Grant Wood AEA Parent-Educator Partnership (PEP) links families and educators for better understanding and communication. As part of a statewide Parent-Educator network, the program provides a lending library of printed information, books and videos; a newsletter; workshops and consultation on communication and family issues; a speakers' bureau; and ongoing networking with support groups and parent-teacher organizations.

PEP Resource Library
Delivery System
The PEP Resource Library is located at the Grant Wood Area Education Agency in Cedar Rapids. Books, audio tapes, videos, handouts, and brochures on a variety of topics can be used by all parents, educators, and any interested persons.
These materials can be obtained by calling the library or stopping at the agency. Van delivery through the schools can be utilized to receive and return checked out items. Parents may use the van delivery system. Materials may be sent to your child's classroom and sent home with your child. To return materials, place the items in the envelope you received them in, cross out your name and put the following on the outside of the envelope:

Send the envelope to school with your child and have the classroom teacher return it on the GWAEA van. If you have any questions about this procedure, please call the PEP Office, we'd love to answer any questions you might have.
Borrowing Policy
Once you have found the material(s) you want, contact the PEP Resource Library in writing, by telephone, or in person and leave your request with Liz Hooley. In the event she cannot be reached, leave your message on her voice mail or with the receptionist. Please be sure to leave a phone number where you can be reached and/or address.
The following guidelines are followed by the PEP Resource Library:
* Books may be borrowed for a period of three (3) weeks
* Audio tapes/Video tapes may be borrowed for two (weeks)
* All materials may be renewed if not requested by another person
* A reminder will be sent to you in regard to overdue material

The PEP Resource Library serves the needs of a variety of families and professionals in the Grant Wood Area Education Agency boundaries. New Resources for Parents and Educators in the PEP Library
The PEP Resource Library has new resources for parents and educators.
DVDs

SKI HI Total Communication DVD program, which includes from the older tape series lessons 1-30 on three DVDs. Lessons 31-60 are available on video tape only at this time. The PEP Resource Library continues to offer the complete video tape series, Lessons 1-60.

A new DVD (two disk set) on Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy has been donated to the PEP Resource Library.
Books
The PEP Resource Library has two new books for parents and educators who are preparing their student for life after high school. These transition materials would be useful for transition planning in the areas of living and earning.

To checkout any PEP Resource Library material, contact Liz Hooley, 319-399-6719 or email lhooley@gwaea.org. Material will be sent to you by Grant Wood AEA van mail to schools in the Grant Wood AEA service area or you can make alternative delivery arrangements with PEP.

The PEP Library maintains a bibliography of resources that is updated yearly. The following are available in Adobe PDF format. (PDF files on this website require Adobe™ Acrobat® Reader to view and print them.)
Handouts
PEP can contribute to partnership building in a variety of ways. These handouts in PDF (portable document format) explain the ways in which PEP can support partnership efforts.
Professional Development Opportunities for Parents
1. Click on Professional Development in the blue margins at the top right of the page.
2. Then click on Courses & Workshops.
3. Read who is listed under Audience and look to see if Parents are included.
4. If Parents are listed, then pursue registering electronically or phone PEP at 319-399-6702 to receive a hard copy of the registration form.
5. Scholarships may be available. Call PEP if a scholarship is needed.
6. Registering in advance is necessary.
Starting Support Groups
PEP maintains a listing of local support groups in Area 10. PEP will also assist anyone who wants to start a group, whether that be a disability-specific group or a school-based group of families or families and school staff wanting to come together for information and support. Contact PEP if you'd like help in launching your group.
